William Leathers

William Leathers is the principal trumpet for The Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and Nashville Symphony. He also serves as a substitute trumpet player for The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Leathers is from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from The Juilliard School in 2022 with a bachelor-of-music degree and earned a master-of-music degree in May 2023. While at Juilliard, he served as a student ambassador.

Leathers has performed with several notable ensembles, including the American Brass Quintet, New York Philharmonic Brass, Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, and National Brass Ensemble, among others. He’s a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship, the inaugural Fendi Vanguard Award, and a Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award. The Mississauga Music Awards named him Musician of the Year in 2020.

In addition to speaking for organizations such as the Pinball Clemons Foundation and the Lifelong Leadership Institute, Leathers also served as a jury member with the Glenn Gould Foundation for the 2022 Glenn Gould Prize and the 2022 Toronto Arts Council grants. He’s a performing artist for Bach Brass and Vennture.
