For more than 30 years, the Miami String Quartet has been one of America’s top-rank chamber ensembles. Highlights of recent seasons include performances at the 92nd Street Y and Alice Tully Hall in New York City; The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; and venues in cities such as Amsterdam, Bern, Boston, Cologne, Hong Kong, Indianapolis, Istanbul, Lausanne, Los Angeles, Montreal, New Orleans, Paris, Philadelphia, Rio de Janeiro, St. Paul, San Francisco, Seattle, and Taipei.

The Miami String Quartet has served as resident ensemble at the Kent Blossom Music Festival, and the group has performed at several other festivals, including Ravinia; Mostly Mozart; Chamber Music Northwest; Rutgers Summer Fest; Music from Angel Fire; and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Virginia Arts Festival, Brevard Music Center Summer Festival, and La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest.

Formed in 1988, the Miami String Quartet has won recognition as laureates of the 1993 Evian International String Quartet Competition, 1992 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and 1991 London International String Quartet Competition. Additional honors include winning the 2000 Cleveland Quartet Award and grand prize at the 1989 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. The quartet was a Chamber Music Society Two ensemble of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center from 1999 to 2001, and it’s been quartet-in-residence at the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University since 2004.

The Miami String Quartet has commissioned and premiered works by Bruce Adolphe, Ricky Ian Gordon, Annie Gosfield, Philip Maneval, Roberto Sierra, Robert Starer, Augusta Read Thomas, Joan Tower, Pēteris Vasks, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. The ensemble has recorded music of Fauré, Saint-Saëns, Ginastera, and Vasks, and their most recent recording, on the Naxos label, features two quartets by Tower.
